Secrets, superpowers, a bromance, kick-ass females… What more could you want out of a show?! If the answer is nothing, then Suits may just be for you.
Suits is one of the few shows that I have been watching since it aired (since 2011!), and have been religiously watching it since. I love a good law show, but there is something every other one seems to be missing. Or maybe not missing, since this is one of the few I can watch without gagging (seriously, is there any episode of Law & Order: SVU that’s not gory? I have yet to find it). For me, Suits just does the law show genre better than others.
Even though it’s currently airing its 6th season, it’s really never too late to jump on board with a show. Especially when I’m about to give you such good reasons to watch it!
At first, this may seem like your average, corporate law show. But there’s a catch – Mike isn’t actually a lawyer. He’s a college drop-out who got caught taking tests for other students. Which, it turns out, makes it illegal for him to be practicing law in the first place. Whoops.
But because Mike is so good at it, and because Harvey really wants to work with him, they keep his secret. Which, undoubtedly, turns into a tangled web of CHAOS as more and more people are brought in and forced to become a part of his lie.
It’s amazing how everyone is willing to fight to keep one (albeit, very big) secret, and how this one little thing can really blow up in everyone’s face.
Another catch of the show is that Mike, the lawyer who isn’t actually a lawyer, is actually really good at being a lawyer. Despite his shortcomings, he is brilliant, and has a photographic memory that makes him pretty much smarter than every person in any room. So even though he may not have a law degree, he’s pretty good at faking it.
Harvey, on the other hand, is just brilliant at what he does. He somehow manages to never lose a case, and is always one step ahead of everyone else. Which makes him an egotistical maniac, sure, but still likable!
Ok, so no one on the show has actual superpowers, but they might as well!
So I take back what I said earlier. This isn’t just a law show, this is a lawyer show. The focus of the show is just as much on the characters as it is the law, and the characters are absolutely brilliant.
One hallmark of the show is the bromance between Mike and Harvey, who are both incredibly hard-headed, but manage to balance each other out so well that they become one of the best TV duos ever. I mean seriously, name a better duo. I’ll wait.
But aside from that, this show has some of the most kick-ass female characters I have ever seen. First off there’s Donna, Harvey’s assistant, who just happens to be smarter than everyone else. And she knows it. And everyone loves her for it. Just because she’s Donna. And then there’s Jessica, who runs the entire law firm and tells everybody what to do. I’m pretty sure there has never been a better female boss in all of television.
Every character is clever, witty, and complex, and they will blow your mind every. damn. time.
As I mentioned, I’ve been watching this show for six years, and it remains one of my favorites. It has a phenomenal cast of characters, brilliant dialogue, and a unique storyline that is just crazy enough to work. It has come a long way in six seasons, but I still love it just as much as when I first started watching it.
If I convinced you to watch the show, let me know! If you have you watched Suits, what is your favorite thing about the show? Tell me about it in the comments!
