May has now come and come and oh my god, it went so fast. I had so much going on this month, I’m surprised I even have things to share with you. Thankfully, amongst all the chaos, I’ve been able to get out of my reading slump and I’ve also gone on some weird Youtube binges. Like, real weird. But hey, at least it makes for some good entertainment!

What I’ve Been Reading…
Everything, Everything by Nicola Yoon
You know I can’t resist a book that’s being made into a movie, especially if the movie looks cute. And if Nick Robinson is in it. But that’s beside the point. This short, fun, YA novel is about a girl named Maddy with severe combined immunodeficiency, which means she is unable to leave her house because her immune system is extremely vulnerable to diseases, bacteria, and the like. But then a cute boy moves in next door, and Maddy has a hard time living her normal, isolated life. So she has to grapple which is more important: quantity of life or quality of life.
I debated whether or not to read this book among all the controversy. But at the end of the day, I wanted to read it regardless of whether or not the ending was lame. Which it was. But I can get past it because ultimately, I don’t think this book is trying to be something it’s not. It’s not a heavy book with intense themes and life lessons. There are much better books for that. But if you just want a cute, fun, light-hearted, quick summer read, then I would totally recommend this one.
On Writing by Stephen King
If you’re a writer or a wannabe writer, I’m sure you’ve heard of this book. At the very least, I’m sure you’ve heard of Stephen King. If you didn’t know, super famous author Stephen King wrote a super famous book about his tips on writing. He called that book On Writing. This is thrilling information for you, I can tell.
I won’t go too in-depth with my review of this one since I already wrote an entire post on it: I Read Stephen King’s On Writing So You Don’t Have To. But as someone who loves writing but struggles with actually sitting down and writing, I will just say that I found this book to be really helpful. Some books make writing feel extremely intimidating, but I felt like this one helped make it feel less complex and daunting. Which I really appreciate. I would definitely recommend this book if you’re a writer or you want to be. And if you want to read it but don’t have the time, I wrote an entire post basically summarizing all of King’s tips in the book. You’re welcome. (Does anyone remember that Awkward show on MTV? RIP. Good times).
Queen of Shadows by Sarah J. Maas
I first mentioned this book series in my February Entertainment Round-Up. In that post, I mentioned that I’d read the first two books, which I loved, and that I was currently on the third. I also said that I was still going to recommend the series even though I had no idea if the ending sucked. Well, I only just finished the fourth book. I still don’t know if the ending sucks. But it has taken me three whole months to read the third and the fourth. Does that tell you anything?
It’s not that the series has gotten bad, it’s just that it’s changed a lot. I was in love with the first two books, but the last couple have just been so-so for me. If you like fantasy novels with powerful female leads, maybe you would really like this. But also be prepared to tread through some muddy waters. Not literally. I mean the books will get slow and convoluted, and you may find yourself, four books in, wondering how in the hell you made it this far and if you will ever be able to finish. I just started the 5th one, but to think of all the other great books I could have read during this time… It kind of bums me out, to be honest.
What I’ve Been Watching…
Pretty Little Liars
I was apprehensive to include this show in last month’s round-up since only one episode of the season had aired. But now that this show has been back for over a month, I feel like I can finally include it! Pretty Little Liars is basically a female-centered murder mystery type of show. If you’ve been watching it for seven seasons like I have, you’ll know it’s incredibly over-the-top and difficult to even describe. There are times where I’ve wondered why I’m even still watching it, to be honest.
But now that it’s on the last season, I’m so glad I’ve stuck with it until the end. I’m so excited to watch the last few episodes and see how it all wraps up. I mean, this ending has been seven seasons in the making… so it better be good. My expectations are probably too high. But what’s new?
Sims Speed Build videos
I’m going to be brief with this one because I know it’s weird as hell. At least I can admit to it. But somehow this month, I got sucked down a Youtube rabbit hole and landed in a pile of videos where people build and decorate Sims houses. Maybe this shouldn’t be such a surprise since I love HGTV and the Sims makes me nostalgic for the 2000s. But still, I’m a little embarrassed to admit that I’ve been watching these videos for the greater part of this month. So much so that most of my ads are now related to home decor. But I honestly can’t help it, these videos are so addicting. Don’t knock it until you try it.
What I’ve Been Listening to…
Harry Styles Debut Album
It should come as no surprise that I’ve been listening to this album and this album alone for the majority of the month. I mean, I did write a rave review on it. Obviously, if you’re curious about the album, you should definitely go read that post. Typically when a good new album comes out, I listen to it on constant repeat until the next one releases. This one has been no exception, which is how I know it’s good. Mostly I’ve been listening to Meet Me in the Hallway, Carolina, and Kiwi, but I genuinely think all of the songs are great. What a boring, basic review but what can I say! I listen to it! I don’t know.
And that’s all for this month! Let me know in the comments what you’ve been enjoying this month! Thanks so much for reading!
