For many, March has probably been filled with basketball, basketball, and more basketball. Personally, I’ve been trying to avoid it as much as possible. But when March Madness rolls around, it can be hard to avoid. So I’ve been consuming as much entertainment as I can that does not involve putting balls through hoops.
If you’re new here, every month I try to pull together all the entertainment I’ve been watching, reading, listening to, and obsessing over throughout the past month. It’s like a monthly favorites, but with less purchases and more things to entertain you. And definitely less balls through hoops… unless that’s your thing.
Make sure to check out February’s Entertainment Round-Up, if you missed it. There’s a lot of good stuff to check out (I say, completely unbiased even though I wrote it)!
What I’ve Been Watching…
The Great British Baking Show
If you’ve ever wondered whether I’m secretly an 80-year-oldwoman, I think this month’s favorites may seal the deal for you. I realize I’m not doing myself any favors. But I just love baking shows and this one takes the cake (HA!).
There’s something so calming to me about the Brits. Maybe it’s their accent or their genuine kindness in the face of competition, but any British show is such peaceful entertainment. Don’t get me wrong, I love a good episode of Chopped or Cupcake Wars, but the constant drama and twists can just stress me out. With the British Bake-Off, I can watch hour after four and never have to worry about my heart rate skyrocketing. Plus, they’re all just so good and nice and I don’t know why I love it so much other than the fact that I’m secretly 80 years old.
Flip or Flop / Fixer Upper / Property Brothers
Again, I know, I’m not helping myself here. But what can I say? Home improvement shows are great entertainment. Don’t judge me until you try it for yourself!
This month I’ve been binging on HGTV and if you didn’t know (I didn’t), they have a lot of really great shows! These three, in particular, are my favorites. The design of the new homes is the best part for me, and I always love seeing the finished products. It gives me a weird sense of excitement to see a house go from disgusting to absolutely beautiful in under and hour. I mean, who needs drugs when you have home improvement shows?
Beauty and the Beast
If you didn’t go see this movie yet, what are you waiting for? Take any young kid you can find as your excuse and go now! Just please make sure you know the kid and you have his/her parents’ permission, please? Thanks. I don’t want to be your scapegoat for child abduction.
Beauty and the Beast was one of my favorite movies as a kid, so I was worried this live-action remake wouldn’t live up to my expectations. But holy hell, this movie was enchanting. Although you have to look past the obvious flaws that show up with adulthood (Why does everyone in this town have different accents? And why is a human/beast relationship not weird?), it is still just as great to watch as it was when I was a kid. Disney movies are the best forms of entertainment for any age, I’m sure of it.
What I’ve Been Reading…
Stephen King’s On Writing
If you’re a writer of any sort, this book has probably been pushed to you as somewhat of the Bible. I love reading about writing, so but it on my bookshelf and call me religious. I’ve been devouring a chapter or two of this every night this month.
I haven’t finished it yet, so I can’t say too much. But I am learning a lot and it’s always interesting to see how different authors approach the same craft. I’m planning on writing a post about this when I’m done, so keep an eye out for that!
What I’ve Been Listening To…
Ed Sheeran’s Divide
If you read my review on this album, I’m sure this comes as no surprise. Ed’s latest album came out and like the rest of the Earth’s population, *spoiler alert*, I listened and loved.
Obviously I don’t need to go into too much detail since you can read the review, but if you’re on the fence about listening, all I can say is you should give it a try. I can’t promise you’ll love every song, but there are so many different styles and genres throughout this album that I’m pretty sure you can find at least one or two songs you will love.
And that’s all for this month! What were your favorite things in entertainment in March? Let us know in the comments and maybe I’ll include your recommendation next month!
