Jackets, coats, and sweaters are some of my favorite pieces when it comes to fashion. I think this is because they can take any outfit — even just a t-shirt and leggings — to the next level. And not only do they make you look more put together, but they also keep you warm. Talk about a win-win!
I’ve been looking for jackets for as long as I can remember, and I’ve found there are three types of jackets that are essential to every wardrobe. Once I found my perfect version of these three, I stopped looking.
If only I could say the same thing about sweatpants…
It seems funny to me that I’m recommending a jacket style that was originally worn only by pilots, but I guess that’s fashion for you. And bomber jackets are all the rage right now. For good reason. And not exclusive to pilots.
One of the best things about bomber jackets is their versatility. You can rock then with a fancy dress or a sweatshirt and ripped jeans, and it will probably always work. They come in all sorts of colors and fabrics, and can be found with various designs and embellishments. I’ve been eyeing the ones with cool designs like a giant tiger on the back, but those are a little less practical.
My bomber jacket is a plain, black, affordable one from Brandy Melville that I love to pull out when I’m in the mood for something edgy but still casual. The only thing is it’s always covered in cat hair. But what’s new?
Since I bought this Levi’s denim jacket at Urban Outfitters last year, it has easily become the most worn jacket in my closet. I break it out anytime the weather gets in the 50s-70s, and it never lets me down.
My favorite way to wear it is just with a t-shirt, leggings, and tennis shoes. When the weather is a little colder, I will wear it over a sweater and pair it with a scarf. They also work really well to make any dress or skirt feel a little more casual.
Regardless of how you wear it, a denim jacket is a classic that I believe will never go out of style. Taylor Swift reference intended.
I can’t even tell you how long I’ve been on the hunt for the perfect leather jacket. They were all too stiff, too short, or too expensive… and then I found this Blank NYC one at Nordstrom. And I am obsessed with it.
To me, leather jackets are kind of like jeans; you have to look far and wide to find the right cut, length, and style for you. I wasn’t looking for a leather jacket with a fur collar, but it ended up being perfect for me. The fur adds a fun touch that I think matches my style and personality perfectly.
Everyone wants to rock a leather jacket, and I think everyone should. The key is to find the one that rocks for you. And then you’ll never want to take it off. Until you start sweating profusely which will inevitably happen with leather jackets. Or is that just me?
I’m not joking when I tell you that once I found my perfect bomber, denim, and leather jacket, I stopped looking for jackets altogether. I no longer feel the need to keep looking and buying, because I know I have everything. With these three jackets in your closet, I think you will always have exactly what you need to complete any outfit.
Except sweatpants. You will always need more sweatpants.
